Media Language: Tying it All Together

Over the last four posts:

You've learned the basic toolkit for analysing a media text. As I cautioned in the first post, this toolkit is broad but imprecise: it doesn't work with everything and certain media texts will need more specific techniques that we will teach you. It is, however, still a great foundation that you'll come back to time and again throughout your studies at GCSE or A-Level. If you've been completing the activity at the end of each post, you've already had some practice - the trick now is to look at all four parts together when approaching one text, and there is nothing better for doing this than a film!

This worksheet is available for you to download or print - if printing it, A3 is best! Head over to YouTube and type in the name of a film. You'll usually find 3-5 minute clips on most official YouTube channels, which is perfect. Watch the clip several times. On the first viewing, just enjoy it. Get a sense of what's going on and the rough narrative. Then give yourself as many repeat viewings as you need to complete the worksheet. You can email completed worksheets to us to take a look at if you wish. Let us know how you get on!
